Dr. Maya Angelou Elementary School in Jersey City and the school’s PTA held the second annual back-to-school book bag giveaway and free haircuts/hair braiding for their students. JERSEY CITY, N.J., SEPT. 28, 2021 — Ollie Oliver went on his compost collection rounds even in the rain. He spends six hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays collecting compost from a total of 61 homes spread fairly evenly throughout the city. JERSEY CITY, N.J., SEPT. 29, 2021 — Martin Luther King III, social justice advocate and son of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, gave the keynote address for the 2021 Saint Peter’s Michaelmas Convocation at St. Aedan’s: The Saint Peter’s University Church, as his father did on Sept. 22, 1965. King III received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. The ceremony was a signature event in the University’s year-long celebration of its 150th anniversary. During his visit to the Jersey City campus in 1965, Dr. King was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws and Letters degree, the first offered by a Jesuit college or university.
