JERSEY CITY, N.J., JAN. 27, 2022 — Devonte McLaurin, of Jersey City, donated blood during a Red Cross blood drive sponsored by “Elvis Duran and The Morning Show,” an American syndicated weekday morning radio program, at the Hyatt Regency to help alleviate the nationwide blood crisis. McLaurin said he was donating because he wanted a chance to win a getaway to Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, an incentive offered by the Red Cross and the NFL to donors. JERSEY CITY, N.J., APRIL 1, 2022 — Jersey City held a celebratory parade for Saint Peter’s University’s mens basketball team following A historic run in the NCAA March Madness tournament.
Thousands gathered to celebrate a team that has meant so much to locals and brought national attention to the city. Many came with signs, peacock feathers and mustaches, a nod to guard Doug Edert’s facial hair.
The Peacocks, a 15-seed, shocked
the sporting world on March 17 when it defeated Kentucky, 85-79, in over-time in its first round game. Two nights later, Saint Peter’s defeated a Murray State team that hadn’t lost in 21 games to become the third 15 seed to make the Sweet 16. JERSEY CITY, N.J. MAY 13, 2022 — York Street Project treated its team and families to some ice cream for their effort in raising money for #HudsonGives. The non-profit organization raised just over $67,000, the most out of 97 organizations. The 25-foot-long sculpture was moved from Morningside Park in Harlem on March 18 after a Kickstarter campaign successfully raised $10,000 to have it relocated.
