Thousands gathered to celebrate a team that has meant so much to locals and brought national attention to the city. Many came with signs, peacock feathers and mustaches, a nod to guard Doug Edert’s facial hair.
The Peacocks, a 15-seed, shocked
the sporting world on March 17 when it defeated Kentucky, 85-79, in over-time in its first round game. Two nights later, Saint Peter’s defeated a Murray State team that hadn’t lost in 21 games to become the third 15 seed to make the Sweet 16. With those two victories, the Peacocks went from anonymity to national celebrities.
